Quasi mode-locking of coherent feedback random fiber laser
Mode-locking is a milestone in the history of lasers that allows the generation of short light pulses and stabilization of lasers. This phenomenon is known to occur only in standard ordered lasers for long time and until recently it is found that it also occurs in disordered random lasers formed by nanoscale particles. Here, we report the realization of a so-called quasi mode-locking of coheren...
متن کاملActive Mode Locking With Hybrid Lasers
We present the results of a numerical study of active mode locking with hybrid lasers which contain an inhomogeneously broadened laser medium and a homogeneously broadened laser medium. The spectral, pulse, and gain characteristics of actively mode-locked hybrid lasers and the influence of the unsaturated gain, the saturation power, and the homogeneous linewidth on the pulse coherence and bandw...
متن کاملMode locking of a wavelength-swept laser.
Self-starting, stable mode-locked pulses can be generated from a wavelength-swept laser through the interplay between an intracavity scanning filter and self-phase modulation. From an Er3+-doped fiber laser employing a scanning Fabry-Perot filter, 100 ps optical pulses are obtained at a 12-MHz repetition rate with center wavelengths that are swept over 27 nm around 1.55 microm in 1 ms.
متن کاملMode-locking of a CW laser
Short pulses are useful in a number of applications in optics, e.g., time resolved spectroscopy, sampling of fast electronics, and communications. This has led to a number of mode-locking techniques to obtain such pulses, for example acousto-optic, injection, synchronous-pump, collidingpulse mode-locking, and Kerr-lens mode-locking. Using the latter two techniques, pulses of less than 100 fs du...
متن کاملSelf..mode",locking of a semiconductor laser
Active-mode locking of semiconductor lasers has pro duced optical pulses as short as 0.58 ps.! This result was achieved using the positive portion of a 16 GHz sinusoid as an electrical drive signal. For many applications, such as electro-optic sampling, it is more useful to have the mode locked optical pulses at a much lower repetition rate. This requires an electrical drive source that produ...
